The COVID-19 pandemic does not directly affect the livelihoods of Fijians living in rural areas, says Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Inia Seruiratu.

He said despite the varying challenges posed by the pandemic on the country, those were still exciting times for rural communities.

“For us, agriculture is our livelihood, fishing is our livelihood and we can run our small businesses because despite the loss of jobs, people still need to be fed,” Mr Seruiratu said.

“And we are the ones who will have to provide them with food.”
